The book includes the novel "Pelham or Adventures of a Gentleman".
In the book in the first person describes the life of a young aristocrat, dandy and habitue of high society saloons and gambling houses. His life is hypocrisy to achieve its goals and positive qualities. The novel, especially the figure of the main character, was conceived by the author, to show how people, internally independent, able to avoid the bad influences of the world.
In the novel, intertwined two storylines. In one of them, Pelham is striving hard to attain high position in society through relationships, involvement in dirty political games, the desire is beneficial to marry. Another detective, describes the tragedy of a University friend Reginald Pelham Glenvil, his revenge the offender of his beloved through a variety of crooks, murder and the subsequent investigation.

В первый том Собрания сочинений Эдуарда Бульвер-Литтона вошел роман «Пелэм или приключения джентльмена».
В книге от первого лица описывается жизнь молодого аристократа-денди, щёголя и завсегдатая великосветских салонов и игорных домов Пелэма. Его жизнь сочетает в себе как лицемерие для достижения поставленных целей, так и положительные качества. Роман, и прежде всего фигура главного героя, был задуман автором, чтобы показать, как человек, внутренне независимый, способен избежать дурного влияния света.
В романе переплетены две сюжетные линии. В одной из них, Пелэм всеми силами стремится достичь высокого положения в обществе путём любовных связей, участием в грязных политических играх, стремлением выгодно жениться. Другая, детективная, описывает трагедию университетского друга Пелэма Реджинальда Гленвила, его месть обидчику своей возлюбленной при помощи различных проходимцев, убийство и связанное с ним расследование.
После выхода в 1828 году роман пользовался огромной популярностью. А. С. Пушкин под впечатлением романа начинает писать аналог «Русский Пелам», который остался незавершённым.

In 1888 Robert Louis Stevenson (1850-1894) traveled to the South seas. His essays about what he saw were published in magazines, and in 1896 was posthumously published in a separate volume. Travel notes "In the South seas" remain in the shadows of "Treasure Island" and other novels of Stevenson, a reading of it in his own curious and unexpected.
A Footnote to History: Eight Years of Trouble in Samoa is an 1892 historical non-fiction work by Robert Louis Stevenson describing the contemporary Samoan Civil War.
