Walter Scott – the founder of the historical novel in England, a classic of world literature.
The book presents two novels which were published together in 1819 - "The Bride of Lammermoor" and "A Legend of Montrose". Both novels were included in the third part of the series "Tales of My Landlord".
"The Bride of Lammermoor" is called the most tragic novel by sir Walter Scott – it most ominous prophecies, and, in addition, both main characters die. The plot of the novel is based on real events: the bride, secretly married, married unloved. On the wedding night in a fit of madness, she tries to kill groom, and a month later dies.
In "A Legend of Montrose" describes the events of the rebellion of Montrose in 1645 against Parliament in defence of Charles I. The Main driving force of the uprising was the highlanders who fought for the liberation of their country.
