The book contains two historical novel of the Napoleonic wars — "Uncle Bernac" and "The Great Shadow".
"Uncle Bernac" nominally part of the cycle of Brigadier Gerard, but Gerard is presented in the novel as a secondary character.
1805. Louis de Laval, son of a French aristocrat who emigrated to England after the revolution, receives a letter from his uncle, in which he is a relative to return home and enter the service of the Emperor Napoleon. Secretly landed on the French shore, de Laval is suddenly involved in the story of the conspiracy against the monarch and realizes that his uncle associates with him some of his secret plans.
“The Great Shadow”. 1814. The star of Napoleon Bonaparte seems to be finally rolled, and the whole of England is waiting impatiently for news of the world. It was at this point in a small village on the border of England and Scotland there is an unknown man, a Frenchman by nationality, possessing a considerable amount of money and, apparently seeking to hide some secrets of his past...
